Welcome! This page provides all the information you need to prepare your print files for your beautiful new book cover. Silvermist Designs offer several different print wrap styles to suit your project: paperback, hardback, dust jacket, and special edition wraps.

Once you’ve decided which style best fits your book, please follow the instructions below, tailored to your chosen printing method.

Please note: A PayPal invoice for the print files will be issued at the beginning of the process, and full payment is required before work begins.

Templates

1. Printing on Demand with Amazon (Paperback & Hardback Only)

source: https://kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201953020

If you’re printing your paperback or hardback book through Amazon’s print-on-demand service, you do not need to provide a print template. Instead, please provide us with the following information so we can download the correct template directly from Amazon:

  • Final Page Count: The total number of pages in your book and paper type (white or cream).
  • Desired Trim Size: The finished size of your book (e.g., 6×9 inches, 5.5×8.5 inches).
  • Blurb: The text for the back cover.
  • Subheadings (if applicable): Any additional text you want to include on the cover, such as author quotes or endorsements.

Please double-check the accuracy of this information before submitting it, as any changes after the template has been generated may incur additional design transfer fees. We want to ensure a smooth and efficient process for you.

2. Other Printers (E.g. Ingramspark, Bookvault, 48hours, Sese Printing, etc.)

If you’re using a printer other than Amazon, you’ll need to provide us with the correct print template. Please follow these steps:

  • Obtain the Template: Most printing companies offer templates for download directly from their website (e.g., IngramSpark, BookVault). For some printers, you may need to contact a representative to request the template.
  • Template Format: Many companies provide templates formatted to your exact trim size. However, some may offer only generic templates that require resizing.
Please note: If your printer template requires resizing, additional charges will apply. Some printing companies do not provide print-ready templates, so please confirm sizing requirements with your printer before submitting.
  • Send the Template: Once you have the template, please email it to us, along with any specific printer instructions you received, and information below.

Important: It’s your responsibility to provide the correct print files. Please double-check all files before sending them, as any errors or necessary revisions may result in additional charges. We want your cover to be perfect!

Along with the template, please also provide the following information:

  • Blurb: The text for the back cover.
  • Barcode: If you have one, please provide the barcode image.
  • Subheadings (if applicable): Any additional text you want to include on the cover, such as author quotes or endorsements.
  • Any other information: Anything else you’d like included on the cover.

Cover Design Style

You have two options for your back cover design:

  • Mirror Image: A mirrored image of the front cover, with adjustments made to accommodate the blurb and other back cover elements. This style is included in the standard cover design price.
  • Continuous Image: The front cover image extends seamlessly onto the back cover. This style often requires additional design work to ensure a cohesive and visually appealing result. Therefore, continuous image designs will likely incur additional fees, which will be discussed and agreed upon with you before work begins. The exact cost will depend on the complexity of the design and the adjustments needed.

Please let us know your preference when you submit your files. We are happy to discuss the best option for your vision and budget.

We look forward to working with you on your book cover! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Delivery Time

  • For standard paperback and hardback cover designs, we typically complete a design draft for your approval within two business days of receiving all necessary files and information. However, to account for busy periods, please allow up to three business days. If you require your cover urgently, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline.
  • For non-standard cover designs (e.g., dust jackets, special editions), please allow up to five business days after we’ve received all the required information for a design draft. Again, if you need it sooner, please communicate your deadline, and we will see what we can do.

This timeframe refers to the completion of the digital cover design draft for your approval. Printing and shipping times will vary depending on your chosen printing service.

While the turnaround period is often quicker than the stated maximum, we prefer to provide a slightly longer estimate to ensure we can meet all deadlines and give each project the attention it deserves. We will, of course, keep you updated on the progress of your design. In the event of any unforeseen delays, we will be sure to inform you promptly.

File Delivery

Once final approval is received and full payment, including any adjustments or add-ons, has been verified, a print-ready PDF and JPG file will be zipped up, and a download link will be emailed to you within two business days.

If you require other file formats (e.g., TIFF, PNG), please let us know during the final approval stage so we can provide them along with the standard files. A flattened PSD file can be purchased for an additional fee. Please inquire for pricing.
